Real Wedding: Lidia & Edward

A beautiful homage to the simple things in life; Lidia & Edward spent their day, their way.

What I love about today’s real wedding is two-fold…submitted by Kiss In Light Photography; a Bournemouth based duo, Lidia & Edwards wedding feels so warm and inviting, and it was, by and large, completely homespun.

Photographers Gabor and Szandra are experienced in eco-friendly, vegan and boho weddings and had an instant connection with the couple.

“A fellow photographer recommended us to the couple, and we met them personally the next week. We ended up having unlimited personal meetings; celebrating Halloween, spending birthdays together, pizza nights…what more can I say…we genuinely love each other!” Szandra

Sometimes, it feels amazing just to go back to basics…and this is exactly how Lidia & Edward chose to celebrate their day. From preparing the flowers on the morning of the wedding to setting up their macrame backdrop for the woodland blessing, the couple genuinely made their day their own without compromising on their values.

“We loved the simplicity, the boho vibe, the vegan- and zero waste aspect, all their meaningful decisions…the relaxed and joyful atmosphere they created. This wedding was the first one which gave us personal inspiration. That’s a big thing for us! Szandra

To get away from the crowds and just be alone, celebrating your love and the commitment you’ve just made must be a wonderful notion…Lidia and Edward did just that directly after their legal ceremony.

They took to the woods carrying their macrame a-frame backdrop and hiked along a trail to find the perfect spot for their blessing; Gabor and Sandra were on hand to capture the ensuing moments; providing the couple with beautiful documentation of their special day.

We absolutely adore the couple portraits taken in the woods; Lidia’s flower crown and bouquet of wildflowers providing a pretty colour pop against the greenery of the surroundings, and Edward’s suit blending perfectly.

You can feel just how fun-loving and in love this couple are; unafraid to do their wedding their way and determined to enjoy it every step of the way, from the planning stages to the moment the sun set on their special, personal and nature-embracing day.

Wed in The Wild Hearts…Twin Flame Styling

Shining the spotlight on Twin Flame Styling; tying the wedding industry with the spiritual industry.

It’s been a few weeks since our first Wed in The Wild Hearts… feature; in all honesty, we’ve been super busy! But, we are back and we have some amazing creative businesses lined up to showcase.

We’re passionate about channeling natural energies and utilising natural elements as much as possible, not only in wedding styling, but in our every day lives. Which is why we wanted to shine the spotlight on Twin Flame Styling; a young business from Essex which is tying the wedding and events industry with the spiritual industry.

IMG_6082

What is Twin Flame Styling?

Founded by Jess Meechan, Twin Flame Styling focuses on wedding planning, styling and coordination. However, Jess also offers a unique list of energy-based services aimed at preserving your energy in the run up to your big day.

IMG_6644Jess working hard, styling a wedding.

“We all know weddings can be stressful. You can find yourself trawling through Pinterest and spending your precious energy where it shouldn’t be spent. Be it through crystal favours, crystal ceremonies, pre-wedding reiki, or live card readings for guests at your event, I am passionate about creating the most magical energy on your special day as well as preserving yours on the lead up to it.”

Borne out of a passion for people, aesthetics and love, Jess has been working hard on her offering, which is unlike any other out there currently. With a spiritual background, she believes that all of us can tune into the world around us and utilise energy in a better, more effective way.

IMG_5635

How can Jess help you?

Describing herself as a fairy godmother, Jess can be on hand to help with full planning, styling, coordination or simply offering herself as a sounding board for ideas; tying them together so that you have the confidence to put them into action across your big day. Relationships are of paramount importance, and Jess is passionate about getting to know the couples she works with…

“For me, it’s the personal touches that mean the most. I ensure that I get to know my couples on a personal level, making the venture we take as collaborative as the couple would like. I love to show personality in what I do and the looks I create always aim to emulate the couple’s personality, spirit and general joie de vivre.”

IMG_5539

Jess’s loves outdoor weddings, or ones that aim to bring the outdoors in; she loves that there is so much scope for decor in an outdoor venue, whether it’s fairy lights in branches, or rugs on the ground. And tying in the outdoors resonates with her spirituality…

“involving earth in your big day, is like mother nature is also a witness to you both binding your love together forever!”

Crystal Power

Of course, crystal power is a trend on the rise, but Jess has long since been in tune with crystal healing. We asked her which crystals she would recommend to couples in the run up to their wedding day…

IMG_6071

“My favourite is amethyst. It is an incredibly beautiful stone that can be found in so many forms. Most of all it’s my favourite because it is a meditative and calming stone. We all can use this in our day to day lives, but really on the run up to a wedding day, it can help keep you feeling balanced and stress-free.

Rose Quartz is another beautiful one, particularly for weddings as it is quite literally the stone of unconditional love. It helps to open your heart chakra and absorb all the love around you, allowing you to reflect it back out!”

How To Choose Your Colour Palette

Choosing a colour palette isn’t easy, but we have five tips to help you make up your mind.

There’s nothing like getting engaged to throw your mind whizzing into turmoil…you may have long decided on your colour scheme, wedding vibe, perfect venue, perfect dress, but seeing that rock on your finger can make you question every little detail you have ever thought about!

Arguably, choosing a colour palette is one of the more stressful aspects of early wedding planning; there are quite literally thousands of colour and shade combinations. But it needn’t be so stressful. Boho wedding planning is all about embracing yourself, expressing your spirit and outwardly showcasing your personality. And so, we’ve put together our top five tips for choosing your colour palette to take that weight off of your shoulders!

Autumnal boho styling at Kenton Hall Estate. Photography by Leah Lombardi.

1. Take a good look at your venue

Once you have booked your venue, it’s a good idea to confirm your colour scheme. Or, if you booked your venue with a preconceived idea of what your colours may be, then we definitely recommend that you look at this palette again and ensure none of the colours clash with any aspects of the venue decor and surroundings that cannot be easily changed or hidden.

Remember, lighter colours can make a space feel bigger than what it is, where darker colours can enclose and create a more intimate vibe. It’s useful to think about how intimate or open you would like your day to be.

Top Tip – Once you have booked your wedding, arrange a follow up visit and take swatches of colours you like!

2. Create a moodboard

Ordinarily, we’d recommend creating a Pinterest board…but Pinterest can be so distracting! Instead, create a couple of moodboards for a few different colour schemes and present them to your partner, bridesmaids, mum…! And once you have chosen the winning palette having a visual aid, which you can print and keep in your handbag or pocket, will allow you to call upon your chosen scheme whether you are shopping online or offline.

Top Tip – You can easily create moodboards in Word on your computer or laptop, or you could even go old school with a magazine and glue stick!

3. Focus on seasonality

Whatever the time of year you are getting married, it’s useful to familiarise yourself with the seasonality of flowers and plants. After all, flowers are often the glue that holds a whole wedding look together.

Beautiful seasonal flowers. Credits at the end of the blog.

You need to think about what types of blooms your florist will be able to provide for the season you are getting married in and ensure that your colour scheme is aligned with what is available at the time. There’s no point asking for Sunflowers in December…!

4. Take a break from weddings

Did you know that much of the trends and styling of weddings are directly influenced by fashion and interior design trends? So, if you are becoming bogged down with wedding magazines and Pinterest boards for table decorations, cakes, etc, take some time out to read an interior design magazine or this months Vogue. You may be pleasantly surprised, not only by how re-energised you’ll feel, but how many new ideas may pop into your head just by changing the subject matter!

5. Be true to who you are and what you love

This. Because after all, it is your wedding day and not your uncle’s, granny’s or your mum’s friend from down the street’s. If you love a certain colour but feel it has been overdone, is last season, or usually looks terrible (Cadbury purple,  amirite)…run with it and put your own individual spin on it. Your suppliers, if you choose them wisely, will support you and help bering your vision to life!

Don’t be afraid to be bold, or to play with colours.

Campfire Vibes Shoot - Lola Rose Photography-225

Whatever your couple style, don’t be afraid. Photography by Lola Rose Photography.

Bonus! Don’t overthink it!

Gone are the days where you paired white with one other colour. It’s quite natural these days for couples to choose a palette made up of 4-7 colours, which all feature either quietly or in a big way across their wedding day.

An Elopement Set in The Wilds of Vermont

Wild forests, waterfalls and mountaintops, this shoot has it all including an insane floral installation.

This was our first ever submission. But because Kelsey and Liam are such mega, committed photographers, this blog has been a work in progress. I mean, can you imagine our jaws dropping at the beauty of all of this? Wild forests, waterfalls and mountaintops…this shoot has it all, including the sweetest couple, an awesome floral installation and off course, stunning camera work.

Speaking to Kelsey and getting to know her during this process has been a dream. And she kindly told us the story of how this shoot came to fruition…

“Having grown up spending our winters in the mountains of Vermont, I’ve always dreamt of getting married in the middle of the woods in a place that means so much to me. As I’ve gotten older and introduced Liam to Vermont, we’ve begun to create our own memories and know that we will get married here when do we make it official. Since our love for this place is so strong and with my sister Lindsey launching a new event planning business Wildflower Event and Design with her sister in law Dara, we knew we had to create our ultimate fantasy elopement that in our dream world, we would create for ourselves! The ideas started flowing and within days Lindsey and I had created mood boards, reached out and solidified vendors and putting our grand plan into motion! “

The day of the shoot began with dark and rainy skies…perhaps not ideal for a real wedding, cos who likes soggy socks and frizzy hair…but in fact, it’s the perfect shooting weather for photographers (no direct sunlight and heavy shadows).

The sweetheart table was set up on the back porch of Wildflower Event and Desing’s log cabin, overlooking Stratton Mountain, which was covered in rolling fog throughout the entire morning. The tablescape, created by Wildflower Events and Design, was a mixture of mauves, mustard yellow, blue, blush and purple florals, with high purple pillar candles, the most beautiful linens from Silk and Willow and hand painted menus by Louelle Studios.

“We had to constantly run the full tablescape in and out of the rain as it became heavier and then slowed down. We even had some of the girls standing over Jess and Andrew as we were taking photos of them just so they didn’t get too wet!”

The team drove an hour north to Kelsey & Liam’s favourite waterfall, Thundering Falls, a mountainside waterfall tucked deep into the woods on the Appalachian Trail. With 100 pounds of flowers in tow, the team grabbed a bucket of florals and started their trek down the half a mile long boardwalk that lead to the waterfall base. Hannah, the florist, built the most insane floral/moss garden that climbed up the side of the mountain overlooking the falls.

545A1627

545A1672

To end the most magical day, the team made their way to the top of an unmarked scenic overlook in the Green Mountains to create the most snuggly cuddle session ever, including cake and champagne!

“We got to the top and with about 45 minutes of sunlight left and we rallied together in the rain to bang out the most magical scene, with Wildflower creating and bringing the tepee vision to life and Hannah from Hudson Botanica building vines of flowers up the side of the tepee as the sun was setting fast behind us.”

As with all shoots, and real weddings, the project was a challenge. Especially as the locations were all around 40 miles apart from each other. And finding vendors with a shared vision and love for the aesthetic was of course, a challenge in itself. But, as Kelsey explains…

“The instant connection and bond that was created by eleven strangers in a matter of minutes was something that I will forever carry with me through my adulthood and career – everyone was creatively vulnerable and worked effortlessly, having never met before everyone came together to cultivate a vision that we had only dreamed of! With our kick ass team of boss babes and Liam of course, we created a magical fairytale scene that blew our vision out of the water!”

Well, team, you completely blew our minds! Hats off to such a stellar team:

Dark & Stormy Feels in Brighton

Dark and stormy shoot, with a touch of sleek glamour; a different take on the bohemian trend

A different vibe for todays styled shoot…dark and stormy with a touch of sleek glamour, whilst still embracing some of the hallmarks of the bohemian trend; beautiful, abundant florals, gorgeous styling and oodles of special little touches.

Led by Emily Dall, a florist based in the UK, the shoot took place at the moody, emotive pub, The Pond in Brighton and incorporated a stellar lineup including the uber talented Bunston Bakes and Wed in The Wild favourites, Lo & Behold Bespoke.  We absolutely LOVE it!

Emily explains more…

“Our Dark & Stormy shoot is the achingly beautiful bohemian marriage of darkness with romance. A love which almost certainly began on a brooding autumn day and which is so overpowering that you could describe yourself as ‘utterly intoxicated’ with your partner.”

ThePond-57

ThePond-39

ThePond-48

ThePond-59

ThePond-75

Emily chose the rich colours of teal & burgundy to offer alternative autumnal hues and provide a contrast with both the fluttering candlelight & the stunning ivory Ossie Clark-inspired dress.

” As an autumn lover, I have always adored a brooding, dark colour palette and I thrive on cinematic styling & drama. As a result, I would say there was certainly a subtle combination of inspiration from the album The Bride by Bat for Lashes, my lifelong love of Wuthering Heights (the ultimate moody & windswept romance on the moors!) and the Instagram feed of Susie Bick, Nick Cave’s wife.

ThePond-96

ThePond-99

ThePond-134

Shooting an autumnal wedding in June wasn’t not easy but the team were ‘blessed’ with a moody weather forecast on the day which was ideal…no sunlight pouring through the windows to pull the tone away from the mood the team wanted to portray.

ThePond-79

ThePond-25

As always, we love to ask about the submitter about their favourite aspect of the shoots and for Emily, it was a hard choice (and we can see why).

“The tablescape came together just as I hoped it would, with the huge peonies & wild roses perfectly interlacing the elegantly ornate brass candlesticks, but when Ami from Lo & Behold hung the hand-painted banner on the wall behind it was just the cherry on top! Receiving those images back from Paloma made my heart sing. Also, if I may mention one other aspect, Arabella went to the trouble of mixing a bespoke lip colour on the day of the shoot to match the rich burgundy colour of the peonies. This attention to detail is everything I adore in wedding design & styling.”

Real Wedding: Madison & Austin

Woodland vibes for this real wedding, featuring some really cool details and a wonderfully loved up couple!

All the feels for the sweetest couple on the blog this evening. Madison and Austin’s wedding features so many pretty little details, and was shot by the lovely and equally talented Brynna of Three Birds Photography

The couple had the most perfect, intimate wedding surrounded by close friends and family. When Madison contacted Brynna about photographing her wedding, she told her of her plans for a small backyard wedding. She also expressed an interest in wanting to shoot images of just her and Austin at a separate location in the woods. For Brynna, it was the perfect brief…

IMG_0480

IMG_0688

Brynna explains more…

“Madison and Austin have such a loving and warm connection that shows in every picture. I loved every detail of their day! Madison’s dress, the flower details in her hair, the groom’s entire outfit, the flowers by Centre Floral – all of it. The most unique and beautiful part about the day was Madison’s tattoo of the moon phase of their wedding night. Their fun and relaxed personality made the day and the photographing experience so amazing and special. Madison and Austin’s day still inspires me when planning sessions and photographing other couples to this day – a wedding I’ll always treasure!”

IMG_0523-2

IMG_0649

Brynna has actually known Madison since they were children, having grown up in the same county, but were never friends. However, Madison began following Brynna when she began her photography venture, and they began to form a bond. She shot their engagement photos in downtown Nacogdoches, TX in different abandoned spots. Madison’s unique personality really clicked with Brynna’s style and every detail of their wedding really spoke to her.

Match made in heaven, it sounds like!

IMG_0613

IMG_0682

IMG_0785

The wedding took place in Madison’s aunts backyard. It was a very short ceremony and Brynna and the couple left right after to take pictures in Sabine National Forest. When the pictures were taken, the wedding party convened in an old community house for the reception, where the food and decorations were made by family and friends. All so simple, but oh so perfect.

Brynna recalls that she “learned that it is better to just do what you want on your wedding day, because it is in fact YOUR day! Madison and Austin did exactly what they wanted, pictures, decorations, and all and it was perfect.”

IMG_0757

Question: Brynna, what does love mean to you?

“Love means being completely authentic and 100% yourself with your partner. Raw honesty is love. Acceptance of faults and flaws is love. Quality time is love. You don’t need expensive dates, cards, and money to show your love. You just need each other. Time spent watching a movie together, making cookies together, dancing to “your” song, or just being beside each other, not even having to say a word. Any day spent together.  That’s love to me.”

IMG_0814

IMG_0864

Brynna provides photography in a style which shows authenticity and joy. She is East Texas based but is willing to travel both within the US and overseas, and she loves to shoot weddings, portraits, and lifestyle sessions. Her boyfriend partners with her for weddings as a second shooter and videographer.

Our Top Five Boho Wedding Designers

We recommend some of our favourite boho designers; think fringes, tassels and intricate laces.

I think every woman dreams about their wedding day. And of course, dreams evolve and change over the course of time, affected by a number of factors; where we live, who we befriend, places we travel, our careers. But one thing remains prominent in the wedding planning within our minds…the dress.

Arguably, one of the most talked about aspects of any brides day is what they wear to walk down the aisle. A whole concept can be conceived and designed around one garment, so it’s pretty important that the right dress is chosen.

Here at Wed in The Wild, we are suckers for a beautiful dress…we’re certainly not shy about loving an over the top, full-on fringed, embellished, bohemian style wedding dress. And we’re certainly not averse to colour either. We’ve scoured the internet, poured over Instagram and subsequently pined for these beautiful bohemian beauties from the lushest designers out there…

Rue de Seine

The bomb diggy of bohemian dresses; Rue de Seine serves up a veritable platter of full-on boho garms for the most wild and free of brides.

Think fringes, embellishments, lace and tassels…there are quite literally too many designs to swoon over within their three collections; Moonlight Magic, Wild Heart and Classics. Our favourites include the Adara, the Ziggy and the Dakota.

Rustic Vibes, Chickens & Cows, in Beautiful BC

Wild and romantic styled shoot from Vancouver Island, BC, shot by Myrtle and Moss.

We are super excited today, not only because its launch day, but we able to finally show you this picture perfect, rural shoot set in the most beautiful location in Canada.

Kimberley Solecki, from Borrowed and Blue Events, submitted this beautiful shoot in response to our first callout on Instagram. A wedding planner from Vancouver Island, BC, Kimberley is a self confessed planning fanatic, which is obviously why this styled wedding inspiration, shot by Myrtle and Moss, is just everything.

Comprising a stellar team of creatives and the most perfect models, the concept was realised at Birds Eye Cove Barn; a hand-cut timber frame facility which nestles into the grassy fields of the 300 acre property. Leaving the colour palette neutral, the styling, fashion and the surroundings speak for themselves. Even the farmlife matched the colour scheme perfectly…scroll down for highland cows and chickens galore!

Kimberley told us that the team faced a few challenges. As the property is located right at the base of a valley in the inlet of a bay, the wind posed some issues. The ceremony arch broke, but the team were able to come up with a plan b…showcasing just how fast a team of quality creatives can resolve an obstacle.

It’s super hard to not love all this beautiful wedding inspiration…we particularly love the flowers by Bespoke Blossoms, the macrame on the tablescape and the beautiful Pronovias gown (loaned from Blush Bridal) worn by Jilliann, the bridal model. And who could forget, the chickens…!
