Warm & Cozy Scandinavian Hygge

We’re love with this heartwarming Hygge inspired shoot!

In love with this heartwarming Hygge inspired shoot, submitted by photographer Brigi of Brigitte & Thierry Photography; perfect for the chilly, rainy spell I’m experiencing in Adelaide at the moment!

Hygge is close to Brigi’s heart which is why the team wanted to create something unique and a little alternative to other trends out there at the moment.

“The inspiration came from Danish pastries, neutral colours and dried flowers. It is not every day that you see various sorts of bakery products, very simple rustic cakes and dried flowers in weddings. The main scope was to provide inspiration to brides and grooms out there who want something different and don’t necessarily dream of a hot summer day for their wedding. There are just not enough winter weddings out there and this Scandinavian Hygge intimate wedding was our way of re-creating one this year.” Brigi

The shoot took place at the beautiful Patricks Barn in Sussex, England, where Brigi felt that the interior resembled a Nordic cabin, and with all of the natural surroundings the team had the luxury of being able to take a nice little walk with their bridal couple.

The beautiful “wild and undone” hanging installation was created by Copper & Moss, along with all other dried flowery goodness and the bridal bouquet. Matching neutral coloured props and decoration was provided and styled by Idyllic Days, while lanterns were brought in by Hire Your Day. The base for the tablescape was a gorgeous rustic table with chairs and stone coloured ceramic plates, all hired from Co-Ordination Catering Hire. To complete the vision of the gorgeous Scandinavian scene, it was important that we were all on the same page when it came to colour scheme. These four fantastic creative suppliers worked together brilliantly and the whole day at the barn was entirely dreamy.

“The wintery wedding of course – in my opinion – could not have been complete without Lisa Lyon Bridal’s furry bridal shawl. The gorgeous dress was also created by Lisa; she’s such a talent!” Brigi

One of the highlights of this Scandi Hygge wedding is definitely The Garden Chef’s mouth-watering baked creations.

“I kind of wish we could capture the delicious smell of her gorgeous-gorgeous cakes in some way and publish it along with the images because it was truly heavenly. Danish pastries are one thing that we rarely see in weddings, yet in this case they were somehow the main pillars of our vision for this shoot.” Brigi

When it came to wedding stationery, the team wanted something simple, neutral and beautiful that would complement the Scandinavian atmosphere they had going on. Kelly & Toby from White Cottage Weddings experimented with textures and colours and came up with a beautiful suite of stationery, that encapsulated the vision for the shoot along with place-settings, menus and even the flags hanging on the walls.

“All in all we had a perfectly dreamy day at Patricks Barn filled with creativity, beauty, and heavenly deliciousness. The concept of “hygge” has always been close to my heart and I am really happy that we could come together with all off these amazingly talented suppliers and create a wedding style so hyggelig.” Brigi

Boho At The Giraffe Shed

Gorgeous, dried flower and Rue de Seine inspiration from The Giraffe Shed.

After seeing this amazing Wild Ones Community workshop over on Instagram and of course, swooning over all the gorgeous details, we were so ecstatic to receive a submission from one of the photographers who attended the shootout.

Submitted by the lovely Rebecca Carpenter, this workshop was curated by an insane UK wedding scene team…including some of the finest boho suppliers; The Little Lending Company, Sass Flower and Cakes by Yolk. Dresses by Rue de Seine and Anna Campbell were lent by the amazing Jean Jackson Couture.

The workshop was the brainchild of Wild Ones Community founder, Nicola Dixon and was run in conjunction with The Giraffe Shed; a new wedding venue in Wales set up by Hannah of Rock Salt Photography.

We’re loving 2019 being the year of dried flowers and natural, peachy tones. And this shoot encapsulates a beautiful colour scheme mixed with pampas grasses and dried seed-heads, bang-on-trend wicker furniture and insane bridal styling.

“I simply adored the styling of this shoot by The Little Lending Co! Everything was on point; the flowers, the furniture, the accessories and the beautiful dresses provided by Jean Jackson Couture were incredible and a joy to photograph. Most importantly the beautiful real life couples oozed so much fun and natural chemistry!” Rebecca

Penny of The Little Lending Company has such a great eye for detail and is the doggone queen of bohemian wedding styling.  Combined with the beautiful floral displays and gorgeous cake, along with incredible stationery by Vine In The Wild, Penny created beautifully styled areas which united all of this seasons most in-demand wedding trends.

We love seeing these types of portfolio building workshops…and Nicola is a standout in the industry; well known for her amazing concepts and her black book filled with amazing suppliers who come together and pull off her overarching vision.

“I’ve followed Nicola Dixon’s work and her Wild One’s Community workshops for a while now and have always just been in awe at the calibre of styling and scale of production. I booked because February was a quieter month for me in terms of weddings and I was bursting to create some new and exciting inspirational content. I had been following The Giraffe Shed online on Instagram and just loved their branding, the story behind it and what they were all about!” Rebecca

The Giraffe Shed is a family-owned venue on a farm in Tregynon, Central Wales. Set up by Hannah of Rock Salt Photography, they offer something completely different to the surrounding wedding venue offerings…not least tonnes of personality and a perfect backdrop to throw unique, creative and highly personalised weddings.

Photographers are divided about portfolio workshops but we think they encourage a sense of community over competition which is vastly important in todays creative industries; indeed, Rebecca is much of the same mind…

“Wedding Photographers all have very different opinions about portfolio workshops but I’m all for them! Some of my closest wedding friends in the industry I’ve met on shoot days and workshops! I think it’s so important to chat with others on a shoot day and stay in touch afterwards with people you connect with, no two photographers will ever shoot the exact same thing and edit the same and that’s the beauty of photography. ” Rebecca

And when it comes to content…well, Rebecca sums it up perfectly…

“I love to attend various shoot days throughout the year as you are shooting content for YOU! You shoot the content you want to create and you shoot the type of content you want to use to attract your ideal client. You’re not under the time constraints of a wedding day and you get to experiment with ideas you wouldn’t usually risk at someones wedding. I think they are so important for your development, creativity and you get to meet some incredible fellow suppliers along the way!” Rebecca

Thank you Rebecca for sharing your beautiful work with us, and thank you to Nicola Dixon and Hannah of the Giraffe Shed for creating such a dream concept!

Boho On The Farm

A sweet shoot full of bohemian, rustic charm and some little animal friends.

We’ve a beautiful, sweet little shoot on the blog today…full of bohemian, rustic charm and including some gorgeous little animal friends…and hailing from Hekluhestar, Netherlands no less.

Whats great about this shoot is that it shows just how the simplest of venues can be transformed with minimal input – some macrame details, florals and a great cake can make all the difference, and can transform an agricultural space really effectively.

Mustard Toned Greenhouse Shoot

We LOVE a greenhouse wedding. And we adore this beautiful greenhouse shoot from Cologne.

We LOVE a greenhouse shoot. Full stop. The shadows, the texture, the interesting nooks and crannies. So when Isabel Pogscheba got in touch which this super boho, mustard-toned shoot, we simply couldn’t say no.

What we love about our role here at Wed in The Wild is being able to share amazing the talents suppliers with our readers, whether they are in the UK, the US, Australia or Europe…like this incredible team from Cologne, Germany. And it’s always so interesting to see the similarities and differences in interpretation, especially with the boho trend. This shoot definitely hits ‘boho’ nail on head…with a beautiful gown, pretty macrame, abundant tablescape styling, feathers and a chill out area you could happily, well, chill for hours in!

GreenhouseBohoweddinginspiration89

GreenhouseBohoweddinginspiration91

The old, overgrown greenhouse provided the perfect, green backdrop to Isabel’s concept, which involved, as the colour palette, lots of grey, green and mustard tones. What we see from the images is a really fresh, lush shoot with lots of amazing boho inspiration…from the bouquet, to the simple cake, to the gorgeous handmade macrame hangers…one in the perfect mustard shade.

The bouquet, although heavily green with oodles of eucalyptus, monstera and other palm leaves, popped with gorgeously soft yellow roses and other white and golden wildflowers. The bride also wore a matching flower crown, switching to a mossy green-grey hat halfway through the shoot, which perfectly matched the grooms suit.

The team styled a gorgeous little table for two with macrame, napkins and gold accents to mirror those utilised in the flowers and the grooms suit. The couple perched on ivory, macrame poufs set on furs. We adore the skull decorated with succulents; it really adds to the character of the shoot.

The couples stationery included nods to the colour scheme but was kept quite modern and edgy. We love the fonts utilised and the curving, wisping foliage decorating the edges; a perfect fit for this greenhouse setup.

GreenhouseBohoweddinginspiration57

The dress is special, with a gorgeous train, laced up details at the back and graceful trumpet sleeves. The lace is beautifully patterned and it just screams boho! We love it. The grooms style perfectly complements all the elements brought together for this shoot with a taupe-grey suit and mustard bow tie…we love a bow tie.

“The touches of lightness and the unconventional, combined with wild and romantic vibes was particularly important to us and the shoot screams ‘unique'” Isabel

Real Wedding: Shaney & Brant

Shaney & Brant’s wedding incorporated so much attention to detail, set by a log cabin in the woods.

Ever wanted to get married in the woods, surrounded by your family and friends, right by a secluded lakeside log cabin treehouse? If the answer is yes, then today’s real wedding is total goals…and more.

Shaney & Brant’s wedding incorporated so much attention to detail; from the handmade turkey feather bow ties for the boys to the handmade-by-grandma fur bolero for the bride. Captured by Trinity Photography, this delightful wedding in the woods is as wild and as close to nature as they come…

Spires_Young_TrinityPhotography_DSC0658_big

Set on the beautiful Lake Jocassee, South Carolina, Shaney and Brant rented the treehouse setting for both bridal prep and their first night as man and wife. And all the details of their wedding nodded to the natural surroundings in which they had chosen to marry.

“My husband and I have always loved the lake! When I found the awesome venue, The Lost Treehouse of Lake Jocassee, I knew it was just the spot to say “I Do”! The setting and location of the venue was absolutely perfect! I felt that it really represented Brant and I. The secluded, but welcoming, woods with a touch of the lake hidden in between the mountains was the perfect spot for our close friends and family to witness the start of the next chapter of our lives. We opted for a bohemian, rustic woods theme to pull off the entire look. Earthy colors with a pop of color were my go-to! We both grew up in small churches, so our ceremony was very intimate and traditional” Shaney

The couple were married in a traditional ceremony before a constructed log arch, draped in vintage cloth and adorned with foliage and seasonal blooms, and a skull with antlers. Guests were seated on heavy, natural wooden pews, which were decorated with feathers, more flowers and candles on tree stumps; all contributing to the warming, nature-filled theme.

“Every part of my wedding decor was DIY. My mother and I came up with all the ideas of how we wanted the ceremony and reception to look. With the help of friends and family, we were able to make it happen!” Shaney

Spires_Young_TrinityPhotography_DSC4337_big

Spires_Young_TrinityPhotography_DSC4418_big

Spires_Young_TrinityPhotography_DSC4313_big

Shaney and Brant really wanted their day to be personal; they played on this need for super personalisation to make their day as unique and as much ‘them’ as possible.

“It is hard to pick a favorite part about the day. Overall, it was nothing short of what I could have imagined! I loved having our dogs a part of our special day! Our dogs are like our kids, so of course they were in our wedding!” Shaney

The antlers used throughout the day were all from Brant’s families collection, and Shaney’s dad and uncle cut most of the pieces of wood which were used for various focal points. Even the wooden chairs used for the reception were either found or donated by family members. Family members even helped set up tents, decor and picked up food…so the whole day was a real family affair.

Shaney and Brant have such a wonderful back story…friends since children and high school sweethearts, Shaney says they never looked back.  On the eighth year they were together, they got engaged on the lake with their dogs! Brant proposed as they were floating in a boat in the back of a cove around sunset.

Shaney always knew she wanted to have her great-grandmother’s ring incorporated into her own ring, but was completely surprised when she found out that her ring consisted of not only her great-grandmother’s ring, but Brant’s grandmother’s as well!

For the lovely couple, their day turned out just as they had hoped for; surrounded by family and friends, on a day where they had had a hand in every single detail. Indeed, when asked what advice she would give to people planning their own day, she said:

“The best advice I can give to anyone is that it is your wedding and your life! Try to incorporate the things that mean the most to you!” Shaney

Amber Tones on The Wild Coast

A gorgeous shoot taking inspiration from the cliffs of Ness Cove, Devon.

What a beaut shoot we have in store for you today, incorporating the creative talents of some literal behemoths of the UK wedding industry scene. And having followed the work of Devon-based Brummie, Nikki Sherriff (of styling and stationery powerhouse Knots & Kisses) for years now, we are so honoured that she chose to submit this perfectly curated, and unique session to Wed in The Wild.

Working with a gorgeous palette of tans, mustards and amber tones, juxtaposed with vibrant, luscious greens, this bridal inspiration is truly one of a kind; the coming together of exceptional creatives, masterminded by Nikki, and offering breathtaking results.

“Living in Devon gives you the wonderful opportunity to explore its gorgeous coastline. I wanted to explore shooting in some of Devon’s wonderful outdoor landscapes and to take advantage of the gorgeous red cliffs in coves along the coast between Exeter and Torquay. Ness Cove proved the perfect spot … despite the many steps up and down to the beach with all our props!” Nikki

The inspiration came from the red and burnt orange colours within the landscape itself; Nikki wanted to create a coastal shoot which wasn’t the typical blue and green colour palette, but instead took inspiration from the cliffs and the natural landscape. And boy did that come together…

We’re massive fans of Mia Sylvia’s work…and Nikki approached her to use dresses from her natural-dyed reclaimed collection. Tonally, they worked perfectly, and fit the colour palette to a tee. Nikki also chose to utilise dresses from Poppy Perspective; another independent designer who specialises in bohemian, free-flowing dresses.

“Using natural materials such as linens, weathered wood and feathers was really important” Nikki

We are also majorly swooning over the brown, tasseled jacket…

Florsits, Brompton Buds really went there with the floral arrangements…mixing wild foliage textures and gorgeous florals to create the most stunning asymmetric floral arrangements, which worked perfectly on the triangular ceremony backdrop frame which is now available to hire from Knots & Kisses. The bridal bouquet combined the same textures, and loose buds and foliage were used to adorn a beautiful ring flatlay.

“We wanted to show how amazing an outdoor wedding in the UK could be. Devon is an amazing location and has some wonderful settings for a Humanist ceremony or vow renewal especially … and there are some gorgeous hotels and accommodation close by to spend your first evening as a married couple.” Nikki

Indeed, photographer Maxi Photography captured the stunning dramatic skies and coastline showcasing just how amazing an outdoor wedding could be.

Are you gasping yet?

We did when we first saw the gallery…those feathers!

The look for the model, red haired of course to compliment the colour palette, was dramatic and bohemian. The team wanted to create a strong editorial look with dark eyes and make up, beautiful braids and incorporating the most stunning amber feather headdress created by the ever-talented Janie at The Lucky Sixpence. Emma Roberts, Giselle Michel-Gendre & Hair by Corinne worked together to create a dramatic look.

Wild Coast - HighRes-1

The concept for the tablescape was to create a glamorous beach picnic with low tables and Moroccan style seating and rugs, hired from Virginias Vintage Hire.

“I wanted to keep an almost traditional style table setting with beautiful linens from Beyond Vintage, and tall tapered candles. I also utilised accessories from Keeping It Vintage, and included accents of natural agate and amber” Nikki

We absolutely adore the abundant tablescape, and love how Nikki used oodles of natural textures and elements to create it. So striking, and the colours are so reminiscent of the cliffside location of the shoot.

A cake inspired by feathers, and in a striking mustard tone, from Claire’s Sweet Temptations and beautiful hammered silver jewellery by Nikki Stark finished the look.

Snowy Sedona Anniversary Session

A beautiful anniversary shoot, set during Arizona’s biggest blizzard in years.

Sometimes, it’s an unfortunate series of events that brings a shoot to fruition. In todays’ case, photographer Traci Edwards explains the origins behind Amber & Kyle’s snowy anniversary shoot, which took place in Arizona during one of the states biggest blizzards in years.

Traci ran a holiday giveaway to couples in Arizona who had recently gotten married and had a bad experience with their photographer. The prize…for one lucky couple to win a snowy adventure anniversary session with her!

I think we can all agree that the photographing of your wedding day is so important and for Traci, it really breaks her heart when she hear couples say “my photographer never showed up” or “my photographer never sent me the photos” or even “the photos weren’t the quality I saw on their website”.

Arizona Adventure Elopement Photographer

Arizona Adventure Elopement Photographer

Arizona Adventure Elopement Photographer

Arizona Adventure Elopement Photographer

In Amber and Kyle’s case, their photographer had missed many key photos that were really important to them.

“They have been married three years and still hadn’t printed images for their home from the most precious day of their lives together because they didn’t have any that felt like they should displayed on their wall. I am a huge advocate for printing your images and hanging them on your walls! I believe this is important not only because it makes your house feel like a home, but is a constant reminder of the love you share, the life you share together and a reminder to nurture your love” Traci

We couldn’t agree more. And we love the notion behind the competition and how it gives couples that second chance to have images taken of them that they truly love.

“We braved the biggest blizzard Arizona had seen in many years and made to the most romantic winter wonderland imaginable in Sedona. Kyle, a genuine country guy from Idaho, and Amber, a city girl from Phoenix, really have the most amazing love for each other! Just from spending an hour with these two at their anniversary session I gathered that their love is patient, kind, caring and deeply rooted!” Traci

The unique landscape certainly captures your heart and your imagination; what a spectacular backdrop to create some truly magical memories.

Arizona Adventure Elopement Photographer

We love the beautiful little finishing touches; from the fur bolero Amber wore, to the sweet little vow books the couples read from…

“Kyle and Amber choose to share new vows with each other during the session and also shared a prayer together they had also shared on their wedding day.” Traci

Traci managed to pool together some amazing vendors to help make this couples second chance at their wedding photography come true…I mean, how generous and loving is that?! It is always a great feeling to be able to give something back, and to help give a couple those treasured images.

“Winning this giveaway we were full of emotions… shocked, excited, and anxious all at once. The chance to relive one of the best days of our life was thrilling. Not only did we get to capture updated photos, but we deepened our spoken vows to each other too! The photoshoot was such an adventure. From driving in one of Arizona’s first ‘blizzards’, to frost bitten toes… the experience was priceless. It was a breathtaking Winter Wonderland.

We are so gracious for Traci and the vendors who made this adventure possible. Every detail was uniquely crafted for our love story. We recommend that other couples seek adventures of their own with these wonderful artists.” Amber

WiTW Hearts…Sift & Gather

The mistress of cakes and all round amazing boss lady of Sift & Gather shares her story…

We are so lucky to be surrounded and advocated by some amazing, gifted suppliers, and we are super thrilled to be able to utilise our platform to showcase their talents, their backstories and their genuine passion for what they do.

As part of our WiTW Hearts feature, we are talking to some of our absolute favourite vendors from across the world; turning the spotlight on them…the ones who go above and beyond to make your day happen in the way you want it to. The people without which this industry would not be at all possible.

Today, we are chatting to the mistress of cakes and all round amazing boss lady, Amber Markland of Sift & Gather. Her story is beautiful and passionate, and I hope you enjoy reading it…

S&G Cover

So tell us Amber, how did you come to be doing what you do?

I didn’t know I loved cake, I was just looking for something I could do with my family to give back to others less fortunate. It changed my life forever. 6 years ago, I became the chapter organizer for a non-profit called “Birthday Cakes 4 Free” in the town of Milton, Massachusetts. I started baking cakes, and my entire family would deliver them with me to children, and seniors that could not afford a cake on their birthday.

Urban Edge Wedding Inspiration

I had know idea how much a cake could impact someone’s life. My children got to experience all the things a parent preaches about, being kind, genuine, respectful, giving, loving, and man did if feel good. From the very first cake that we delivered to a single mom, with 6 kids, on the verge of being homeless… I knew I was doing what I was meant to do. Since then, I have been perfecting my craft and finding a place in the industry that allows me to be uniquely me!

What aspects of weddings do you love the most?

This is easy, I love the LOVE aspect of a wedding the most! Here’s why… 14 years ago, I got married to the love of my life. Sounds amazing right? Well it was not what you see on Wed in the Wild, let me just tell you that. We were stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base in potato country Idaho, in the United States Air Force.  I had a 1 year old on my hip, standing in front of a judge at the local courthouse. No family or friends to witness the once in a lifetime moment, no special vows written from the heart to read to each other, and no wedding rings.

BullCake

Now that I have witnessed and participated in real life weddings and elopements, I can see how special every aspect is to a couple and their loved ones. But the love that radiates between two people is so fulfilling to the soul.  Don’t get me wrong, I also love the design, florals, signage, cake, and all the details that pull it together. But I love the LOVE part of a wedding the most!

ArrowCake

What is your USP? How do you set yourself apart in the market?

It’s ME. I see how people can get caught up in doing what everyone else doing. I try and do the opposite of that! I do what I want…   I look at my business as a reflection of my individuality, it’s authentic to who I am as a human.  My brand is my aura, a beacon of light around me that puts off good vibes only and attracts people that want and need me. I sprinkle that shit in everything I make, along with a whole lot of my heart and soul. That’s what I want people to respond to first, ME, and then scream over how dope their cake looks and tastes!

We really couldn’t agree more…you are your biggest asset!

Are you keen to or have plans to launch any other products or services?

Not at this very moment… Right now, I am 100% focused on getting the brick & mortar, Sift & Gather cake studio up and running! Once that happens, you can bet your sweet ass we’re going to turn it up a notch! And don’t be shy about reaching out to me with questions, new ideas, or collaborations.

What do you love most about the wedding industry?

Besides the couples, it’s hands down all the other vendors doin’ the damn thing. I can say, without a doubt I have made friends for life with several of the vendors I’ve worked with over the last year. These people that are pouring their blood, sweat, and tears into the products/services they are creating and providing for the couples we’re all so fortunate to meet is INSANE. I am humbled and honored daily by how lucky I am to be working in an industry that is so inspiring and supportive.

Hail. Amazing, supportive suppliers can make all the difference when you are a solo business owner.

Describe your ideal wedding?

My ideal wedding would be a small intimate ceremony, somewhere outside. Warm weather, no shoes, and a wedding dress that hangs off my shoulders and moves with the breeze in the air.  I’d walk down the isle with my 3 children by my side, to music that speaks to the soul.  The seasons most beautiful flowers, and a custom backdrop you’ve never seen before. Vows. Dinner around a gorgeous table setting, food, drinks, and a whole lot of dancing! Ohhh… and a beautiful cake!

Which celebrity wedding style do you love?

I fell in love the very moment I saw the three individual cakes at the Royal wedding this last year.  It was so outside the box from what the past royal wedding cakes have ever been, and man did they make a statement. Simple, sophisticated, elegant, each one unique but still complimenting the others, and completely edible!

We agree…Meghan & Harry struck so many perfect chords!

What do you think is the biggest issue in the wedding industry?

Not giving credit, when credit is due. Sometimes the importance of a vendor’s role, gets minimized next to all the other important parts of a wedding. In my eyes, there is not one aspect of a wedding provided by a vendor that is not just as important as the next. The wedding comes together via a collective of talented, hardworking, worthy humans.  There is no i in TEAM, you know what I’m sayin!

We really do. Crediting is vastly important!

And finally, lovely lady, what does love mean to you…

Love to me is nourishment to the mind, body, and soul. It’s a feeling that feels so good, it almost hurts. Love is compassion and compromise. Love to me means, you can put your heart in someone else’s hands and know that they will hold it gently and protect it.  To me, love is something you give and receive. An explosion inside your chest when you look into the eyes of your children. An ache when you’ve become disconnected and distant from love you once had. Love to me means being gentle and kind. Love is loving yourself and all that you have to offer the world.

Love is CAKE!
