Wild & Free at Browning Bros

With a focus on sustainability, this wedding inspiration shoot is seriously beautiful!

What do insane floral installations, reclaimed wooden backdrops, tipis and bohemian styling all have in common? We love, love, love them! Thats what! So we’re unbelievably thrilled to be bringing this glorious wedding inspiration shoot to you today!

Conceptualised and coordinated by Wed in The Wild Editor, Jenna, the shoot combined creams, golds, whites, browns and greens in a neutral palette perfect for a bohemian wedding. The focus was also on sustainability – all styling and hire items were either repurposed, recycled or sourced from vintage shops, the hop wreaths utilised by the florist was used again after the shoot for a wedding, and all the gorgeous linens were all repurposed and dyed using natural, plant or recycled metal dyes.

“When dreaming up this shoot, I had no venue in mind other than Browning Brothers, and their Chalkney Water Meadow site. I love their tipi; the colour is perfect for the palette I had assigned to the shoot, and I knew it would also provide the necessary drama. Their site is brimming with beautiful little pockets of nature; including a beautiful lake and an open field where we shot the models running through the grasses. And luckily, their bell tents were available for the models to get ready in.” Jenna

The shoot focused on three key installation areas, with a number of smaller setups interwoven throughout the day. Anthology Vintage Hire had just finalised their three part reclaimed wooden backdrop, which can be made longer or shorter based on requirement. We utilised all three panels for the tablescape and seating area, and it provided the perfect frame.

Mia Sylvia worked her fabrics into two beautiful swathed installations, whilst Emma Spowage created a bold and dramatic pampas and hop-filled foliage installation, littered with dainty little flowers. The Rock The Day team styled the tablescape utilising a rust-dyed runner from Mia Sylvia, a hand-worked hop garland by Emma Spowage and a gorgeous collection of vintage sourced brass candlesticks and deer. The bohemian nods were continued in the two other installations; the low grazing table and the gorgeous, abundant a-frame setup, which flanked The White Mules drinks trailer.

“When I approached Emily from Maid of Gingerbread, I was so excited by her enthusiasm in creating a tipi out of gingerbread. I had admired her work for eons and I knew her unique creativity would provide an amazing statement creation which would be worlds apart from the naked cakes we see so often. The detailed macrame piping and the gorgeous matcha green tea infused piped grasses and flowers were mindblowingly pretty, and the whole confection just worked so well with the larger setup and styling. It was also yummy.” Jenna

Emma Spowage, in sheer determination the day before her biggest wedding of 2018, provided the most stunning corner piece for the wall setup alongside a gorgeous bridal bouquet which we trailed with silks by Mia Sylvia. Emma also created a really unique succulent inspired headdress for the models to wear, which included some of the hops she had foraged for the shoot too. The bouquet was abundant and utilised white florals, pops of yellow, oodles of foliage and green amaranthus.

Two models were chosen for the shoot; Louise and Rachel, who both have completely different looks and personalities. For Louise, the team selected gorgeous Chantal Lauren and Otuduy dresses, which worked perfectly with her Texas-native cowboy boots and relaxed hair and makeup. Rachel rocked Rembo Styling and Francis Bridal gowns, which provided a beautiful contrast to her more structured, plaited hair. All dresses were supplied by Rock The Frock Bridal who were extremely accommodating and fabulous at recommending dresses to pair with the moodboard. Lisa Alger provided hair and makeup services.

“I decided to use ASOS accessories as I hadn’t come across anything I similar elsewhere – I wanted a hat, and I also wanted to utilise a draping gold headpiece that I had come across on the website, which Rachel wore. On the day, we noticed that Louise already wore a gorgeous Texas state necklace, which we decided to use; Louise is a country singer and her boyfriend lives in the states, so it actually worked perfectly with the tone of the shoot. Lisa also worked in some beautiful gold clips into the girls hair. I had approached She’s Lost Control who sent us a gorgeous box of goodies to utilise as part of a number of styling setups, including crystals, candles and love sprays from their online collections. We also lent a couple of dried sage bundles which we ended burning to ward off the wasps on the day; however, the burning sage fit so well that we decided to include it in the images!” Jenna

For the stationery, Jenna decided to utilise succulents in order to tie in with the styling on the day, and also incorporate celestial nods in the shape of watercolour moon graphics. The stationery also included feathers, dreamcatchers and antler charms.

“I wanted to provide something different to the norm, so I created a bohemian lanyard style order of the day booklet, which included a who’s who of the wedding party, an order of service sheet, a poem and a drinks token page. I also decided to create a beautiful organic cotton printed banner, with a gorgeous quote. To this, I sewed in tassels to the corners for a textural feel”. Jenna

The shoot was captured by British Wedding Photographer of the Year 2018, Kelsie Low, who’s direction, patience and willingness to contort herself into various positions to get the money shot is nothing short of inspiring!

“Working with Kelsie and the rest of the team was such a pleasure – each supplier went above and beyond, and the result was our magic.” Jenna

Real Wedding: Shaney & Brant

Shaney & Brant’s wedding incorporated so much attention to detail, set by a log cabin in the woods.

Ever wanted to get married in the woods, surrounded by your family and friends, right by a secluded lakeside log cabin treehouse? If the answer is yes, then today’s real wedding is total goals…and more.

Shaney & Brant’s wedding incorporated so much attention to detail; from the handmade turkey feather bow ties for the boys to the handmade-by-grandma fur bolero for the bride. Captured by Trinity Photography, this delightful wedding in the woods is as wild and as close to nature as they come…

Set on the beautiful Lake Jocassee, South Carolina, Shaney and Brant rented the treehouse setting for both bridal prep and their first night as man and wife. And all the details of their wedding nodded to the natural surroundings in which they had chosen to marry.

“My husband and I have always loved the lake! When I found the awesome venue, The Lost Treehouse of Lake Jocassee, I knew it was just the spot to say “I Do”! The setting and location of the venue was absolutely perfect! I felt that it really represented Brant and I. The secluded, but welcoming, woods with a touch of the lake hidden in between the mountains was the perfect spot for our close friends and family to witness the start of the next chapter of our lives. We opted for a bohemian, rustic woods theme to pull off the entire look. Earthy colors with a pop of color were my go-to! We both grew up in small churches, so our ceremony was very intimate and traditional” Shaney

The couple were married in a traditional ceremony before a constructed log arch, draped in vintage cloth and adorned with foliage and seasonal blooms, and a skull with antlers. Guests were seated on heavy, natural wooden pews, which were decorated with feathers, more flowers and candles on tree stumps; all contributing to the warming, nature-filled theme.

“Every part of my wedding decor was DIY. My mother and I came up with all the ideas of how we wanted the ceremony and reception to look. With the help of friends and family, we were able to make it happen!” Shaney

Spires_Young_TrinityPhotography_DSC4313_big

Shaney and Brant really wanted their day to be personal; they played on this need for super personalisation to make their day as unique and as much ‘them’ as possible.

“It is hard to pick a favorite part about the day. Overall, it was nothing short of what I could have imagined! I loved having our dogs a part of our special day! Our dogs are like our kids, so of course they were in our wedding!” Shaney

The antlers used throughout the day were all from Brant’s families collection, and Shaney’s dad and uncle cut most of the pieces of wood which were used for various focal points. Even the wooden chairs used for the reception were either found or donated by family members. Family members even helped set up tents, decor and picked up food…so the whole day was a real family affair.

Shaney and Brant have such a wonderful back story…friends since children and high school sweethearts, Shaney says they never looked back.  On the eighth year they were together, they got engaged on the lake with their dogs! Brant proposed as they were floating in a boat in the back of a cove around sunset.

Shaney always knew she wanted to have her great-grandmother’s ring incorporated into her own ring, but was completely surprised when she found out that her ring consisted of not only her great-grandmother’s ring, but Brant’s grandmother’s as well!

For the lovely couple, their day turned out just as they had hoped for; surrounded by family and friends, on a day where they had had a hand in every single detail. Indeed, when asked what advice she would give to people planning their own day, she said:

“The best advice I can give to anyone is that it is your wedding and your life! Try to incorporate the things that mean the most to you!” Shaney

The Foragers Tale

Foraged, seasonal beauty set in a secluded cabin

Today’s styled shoot is completely different to our usual posts…and we love it. As we all begin to evaluate our roles in the preservation of our world and our ecosystems, this shoot comes as a lesson on how we can all feel more connected to the environment.

Submitted by florist Sharon Pointen and including one of our faves, Mia Sylvia, the shoot is a beautiful take on being at one with nature, and observing the seasons.

“Imagine our nature loving bride and groom gathering a selection of delicious fruits, perhaps catching fish from the river and creating an intimate celebration of their love.” Sharon

_dsf2499

Autumn is a magical time of year with the abundance of fruits, seed pods and interesting flowers & foliages, including hops, fresh walnuts, blackberries, grapes, apples which are exciting little gems to be found when exploring and foraging.

“These eclectic textures and elements were key to creating the look. For the flowers, I wanted them to make you feel like you are cocooned within a blanket of seasonal colour and scent” Sharon

There is certainly an abundance about this shoot which has a real seasonal vibrancy about it. Lots of colour from the beautiful food, foliage and flowers. Sharon had wanted to make a double bouquet for a while, and pair it with an intricate statement head-dress, so this was the perfect opportunity.

_dsf2502

_dsf2522

_dsf2561

_dsf2574

Indeed, honouring and respecting the seasons as a supplier and a couple is on the rise, and we love that so many couples are finding the time to understand growing cycles and sourcing things locally and from vintage fairs/markets.

“With each area, there were botanical influences,. The dress was created by Mia Sylvia using natural dyes, including avocado and roses” Sharon

Mia is well known in the East Anglia wedding community for her innovative take on silk and fabric dying. She forages and uses waste/thrown away items to create beautiful garments, dresses, headscarves and linens for tables, draping etc. Each piece is unique and injects a real unique flavour.

The back drop was a delightful rustic cabin by a river; challenging due to it’s size but with a lovely array of details which could be utilised.

“It was important to use these without everything looking crammed together. I love the cabin; I had seen it a few years earlier and imagined the floral installations we could create there. Thankfully the owners were happy for us to put this photoshoot together” Sharon

Buns of Fun created the beautiful cake which continued the foraged theme. Hair and makeup on Cathy, the model, were kept loose and natural; adding to the whimsical, romantic air of the shoot. I don’t know about you, some of the photography by Big Phat Photos reminds us of a beautiful Renaissance painting!

Wild Love at Deception Pass

Big love for this shoot, set amongst the landscape of Deception Pass State Park.

Big love for this Washington shoot, set amongst the gorgeous landscape of Deception Pass State Park. We reached out to Tatiana of Rosemary & Pine photography after seeing some beautiful shots from the shoot floating about on Insta. We instantly wanted to showcase it in all its wild and natural beauty.

There are so many things we love about this concept…from the surroundings, to the styling. The palette is so delicate set against the raw of the wilderness, with pops of peach and pink, and flashes of brighter reds and orange. It is, in a word, dreamy.

We also love that real bride Karaline left her beaut vintage glasses on. We love a strong glasses look.

Catching up with Tatiana, the photographer, I wanted to understand more about what the day entailed…

“It was such a romantic day to venture out with Robert and Karaline as our models. Karaline wore a dress by Free People that she actually wore at her wedding reception, which her and Robert celebrated just the year before!

So many amazing vendors played a key role in making this day as amazing and beautiful as it was. Al & Bloom created such beautiful floral pieces that complemented 3Eleven Event’s styling so well that I almost couldn’t get over how romantic and beachy the whole tablescape felt. Some of my favourite items used for styling were the beautiful brass candlesticks that brought so much romanticism and dimension to the tablescape. Al & Bloom’s cascading florals don’t fall fair behind though!”

Sometimes a pared back styled shoot makes for the most impactful. A simple but beautifully constructed tablescape, a beautiful stationery flatlay and the cake styled to perfection. And then a programme of stunning couple shots.

That’s exactly what this team did. And nailed it.

“I loved how down to earth, romantic, and adventurous this entire day was. Elegance was intertwined through bits and pieces of the day, but still, it included so much texture and a touch of boho that made such a good connection to the location.” Tatiana

The shoot location is so idyllic…we wish we could travel to all the amazing places our submissions come from. But we are especially loving the contrast between the golden grades, the sandy ground and the beautiful evergreens in the background. Such a gorgeous representation of nature.

And despite it being a cold day, we can feel the warmth between this sweet newlywed couple…

“I loved shooting with Robert and Karaline as newlyweds because their love for one another said it all. It feels so good when almost every aspect of a shoot comes together so flawlessly from the connection your couple has to vendor styles jiving better than you could dream of” Tatiana

From the sumptuous cake finished with edible gold leaf, to the rosy tones of the stunning stationery suite, each and every supplier captured the vibe and delivered such an array of incredible pieces to make this whole shoot run like a dream.

One of our favourite aspects of this shoot is the fashion. The dress worn by Karaline, by the amazing Free People, is so beautifully bohemian and effortless…the scooped back, the winged sleeves…and not forgetting the button detailing! We lovvvvve that she chose to wear sandals as opposed to the typical bridal heel. Robert, incredibly dapper in his dark grey suit, chose the perfect brown shoes to complement the surrounding landscape.

And seriously, how can we forget that bouquet. So beautiful in its abundance, and perfectly rich and tonal.

When asked about how the shoot went, Tatiana explains…

“I can’t say that I felt there were many challenges during this day. Everything, even the weather, felt so perfectly chosen that I could not have asked for a better creative experience.” Tatiana

Well, you can’t get much better than that, can you…

Well done to a fabulous team!

Wild & Edgy Engagement Shoot

Our hearts are aching from the sheer coolness of this engagement shoot!

Yesterday, we posted on our Instagram about diversity and inclusivity in the wedding industry. Following a recent upsetting post from another wedding blog/directory about pre-wedding diets, we felt compelled to make a stand. Our Editor, Jenna, took to both her Wonderland Invites and Wed in The Wild platforms to make statements about how damaging ill-thought out statements can be to peoples mental health.

Here at Wed in The Wild, we want to be inclusive. We want to be diverse. We want to showcase love in all of its forms. Whatever your size, colour, religion, sexuality, gender, age…love IS love and we are here to celebrate it.

We welcome shoots, real weddings, elopements, engagement shoots and guest posts from everyone…the only stipulation we have is that the styling must be bohemian and feature an outdoor element or portion to the photography. There are no conditions placed on size, colour, religion, sexuality, gender or age (providing the subjects are of a legal age to marry of course!).

Right…moving on now that the housekeeping is out of the way!

Allow us to introduce you to Leslie and Justin; a couple who are so rad, our hearts are aching from the sheer coolness of their engagement shoot with the fantastic Kendra K.

One of our faves, Amber of Rock and Stone Weddings submitted this quirky, outdoors engagement shoot to us and we are living for it. It’s a full on theatrical-esque setup, and is jam-packed full of beautiful, intrinsic details, beautiful fashion and a lot of honest, raw emotion.

“Justine and Leslie are one of our 2019 couples… when we first met for coffee earlier in the summer they described their ideal wedding as moody, baroque and a little bit punk and we were sold!” Amber

We are beyond sold too!

Leslie_Justin_76

Leslie_Justin_86

The cut of Leslie’s dress is just phenomenal; showing off her beautiful curves and really throwing up some amazing sparkle. And we love that it shows off all of her tattoos; we are here for a tattooed bride. Justin’s velvet blazer is giving us super cool, modern Elvis vibes, and we love the shirt her chose to complement the texture. We can’t wait to see what they wear for their wedding day!

“With the wedding being a little alternative, it was no surprise that these two were looking for something extra special for their engagement session too. We were so excited to team up with our fave vendors a year before the wedding to give guests a little peek into what to expect from the big day itself.” Amber

Amber and the team utilised the colour palette from the wedding day, paired with a forest setting to create a mystical woodland vibe, with lots of candles, crystals and stunning florals from Villanelle.

You may recognise the cake, too…it has gone a little viral on social media. Created by cake gurus Sift & Gather, it screams baroque with its decadent colour palette and black lace skirt. We especially love the arrow element – something we’ve never seen on a cake before!

The tablescape styling is pure drama, and combined with the epic floral tree installation, it gives the shoot a sultry, romantic vibe. We’re big fans of crystals here and we’re so pleased that Amber chose to include an abundance of them in various setups for the shoot.

Smoke bombs, smoke bombs and more smoke bombs. Will they ever get old? We think not. We love the extra dimension and added drama the various coloured smoke bombs add to this shoot…from greens and blues to the dramatic orange you will see towards the end of the shoot, the colour pops are used so creatively and are a great frame to the shots they are used in.

Justin designed all the stationery elements, with a little help from his friends; Jane who helped with the handwritten calligraphy & Andrew care of the printing. Kraft brown paired with black isn’t a combination we see very often but it works so well for this indie couple. Justin also designed the patch & pins for Leslie’s jacket and the banner which was hung from trees.

As a surprise for Justin, Leslie had had one of his favorite songs recorded by a mutual friend which the team played especially at the engagement shoot for him. Alayna Erhart, who provided the videography for the shoot included the song in the final video cut which you can see here.

We love a creative couple and a team which can take a vision and truly knock it out of the park…well done all involved as this engagement shoot is truly a work of art! Can’t wait for the wedding!
